Sev

'SEV', one of Gürkan Karacan's recent compositions, is a work of awareness that explains how ended loves don't actually disappear, but simply continue in our lives in different forms. Focusing on the power of continuing to love despite everything, this work celebrates the endless transformation of love and the healing energy that is reborn with every heartbeat, through a musical language.

Aşık Yorulmaz

The verses penned years ago with great love by the esteemed poet Sayit Yorulmaz are transformed into a timeless encounter with the new stanza and melody added by Gürkan Karacan. This work, which unites the emotions of two different eras with the elegance of a 'poetic duel', comes to life within a ball scenario, through the dance of contemporary lovers. The legacy of the past and the rhythm of the present merge in a single breath in this nostalgic atmosphere.

Külbastı

This instrumental piece, shaped by modern synth textures and the mystical sound of the electric bağlama (a Turkish stringed instrument), presents the folkloric structure of Kolbastı (a Turkish dance) with a contemporary fusion approach. This work, where the richness of sound integrates with modern and traditional dance aesthetics, was recorded live in the wine cellar of the historic 11th-century Mörsburg Castle in Switzerland, in a captivating atmosphere and with a medieval-inspired 'Tiny Desk' concept.

Çiçegi Burnunda

This special song, one of the first pieces Gürkan Karacan learned to play on the guitar and which accompanied his musical journey in the early years of his career, is revived after a long time with a new arrangement. This cult work by the group Merdiven blends the iconic spirit of 90s Turkish Pop with modern sounds, bringing it to the listener.

Vaktisin Istanbul

Gürkan Karacan's ambitious pop hit 'Vaktisin İstanbul' (It's Time for Istanbul) is a depiction of Istanbul through the artist's eyes. Inspired by the city's deep history and multicultural structure, the song reflects how every street and every moment flows without repetition, sometimes rapidly, sometimes calmly. It portrays Istanbul as sometimes a weary and elderly person, and sometimes as a newborn baby. While this first version of the song captures this spirit with a verse and a chorus, the full version...
It will meet the audience 'when the time is right'.

Vreneli Guggisberg

'Vreneli Guggisberg', which Gürkan Karacan heard during a rehearsal and fell in love with at first sight despite not knowing the language, is one of the most deeply rooted works in recorded Swiss music history. This traditional piece, which tells a mystical love story set in the misty mountains of the Bern canton, gains a brand new energy with Gürkan Karacan's characteristic bağlama (a Turkish stringed instrument) sound and oriental rhythmic touches. The music video, where traditional Swiss dances merge with the beauty of the Alps on the mountaintop where the legendary lovers secretly met, brings this centuries-old love story to the present day with modern visuals. This work, one of the artist's most beloved pieces in his concerts, builds a bridge from Anatolia to the Alps.

Martilar

"Seagulls," blossoming amidst the rhythm of the sea and the cries of seagulls on an Istanbul ferry, is a song born from innocent disappointment. The sadness little Deniz feels when the bagels he throws to the seagulls fall into the water, and the words that escape his lips, "I guess the seagulls don't like bagels anymore...", form the soul of this work. Composed with the naturalness of that moment, the song unites a child's imagination with the sound of Istanbul's waves in the same melody.

Yayla Yollarinda

Gürkan Karacan's reinterpretation of the Central Anatolian folk song 'Yayla Yolları' (Highland Roads), with its melodic touches and rhythmic structures in 9/8 and 5/8, is a high-energy fusion where modern sounds meet acoustic instruments. Recorded as a 'Tiny Desk Session' in the industrial atmosphere of an old bus hangar in Zurich, this traditional piece is accompanied by a jazz saxophone solo rising above the irregular 9/8 rhythm. These improvisational moments symbolize the universal journey of the piece, from the Anatolian highlands to the Alps.

Aşk ve Çilesi

The melodic structure, bearing the signature of Reto, Gürkan Karacan's long-time musical friend, combined with the lyrics written by the artist, resulted in this emotional piece. A reflection of the two friends' long-standing artistic bond and shared spirit, this work is among the most beloved and cherished pieces by listeners.
